The following letter was sent by Friends of the Everglades to all Florida congressional offices requesting their rejection of the intentionally manipulative language additions that would ultimately prioritize the water supply needs for large industrial farms south of Lake Okeechobee over the health of residents living along toxic-algae plagued waterways. Important Advocacy Powered by #GivingTuesdayNow Support During Covid-19

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted our lives, but it has not diminished our spirit of advocacy. During the past month, our staff has been working remotely to deliver two new programs that will help empower environmental advocacy in the era of COVID-19. The first is the new Young Friends of the Everglades, a virtual learning hub for students that’s designed to inspire action among the youngest environmentalists. Students can sign a petition to protect the Key deer and learn about Everglades ecology through this free virtual program. Dear Friends of the Everglades, Today would have been the 130th birthday of our founder, Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Everything we do at Friends of the Everglades is driven by Marjory’s legacy of advocacy, and it’s our honor to mark this Everglades Day with some good news we believe she would be proud of. Today we are re-launching our Young Friends of the Everglades program, which has been reimagined as a virtual education portal for students.
