Philip Kushlan graduated from the University of Miami with a BS in Biology and Marine Science in 2008. He graduated from UM’s Biology department with a MS in 2011, using genomics and stable isotopes to study the metabolism of sap-feeding insects and their bacterial symbionts. He is currently a Maytag Fellow and a PhD student at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science on Virginia Key, Florida, using genomics to study the resiliency and adaptive ability of corals and their symbiotic algae. Having spent time in south Florida’s wetlands and reefs all his life, Philip has a passion for the conservation of Florida’s unique ecosystems and an interest in working to end Big Sugar’s influence on conservation efforts.

Bob Stein is a Board Member of Friends of the Everglades and a commercial litigator at Rennert Vogel Mandler & Rodriguez, P.A. in Miami. Bob holds a B.A. from Tulane University, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and a J.D. from Tulane University Law School. Additionally, during the evacuation which followed Hurricane Katrina, Bob attended UCLA Law School as a visiting student.
Bob’s first experience with environmental law was gleaned while working on the litigation surrounding the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina’s storm surge traveling up the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (“Mr-GO”). Currently, Bob represents real estate developers, title insurance companies, lenders, commercial landlords and tenants and entrepreneurs. He is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator, having previously studied alternative dispute resolution and negotiation at Tulane, UCLA and Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.
Originally from Newport Beach, California, Bob is a great appreciator of New Orleans food, music, culture and sports, having lived there for ten years. Bob and his wife, Alecia moved to Miami Beach in 2010, where they continue to live along with their two dogs and two cats. In their time off, they enjoy scuba diving, cooking, travel and live music.
